Mirpurkhas faces water shortage

By Our Correspondent

MIRPURKHAS, June 10: The residents of several areas in Mirpurkhas have been facing an acute shortage of water for the last 10 days as they were not being supplied any water by the Public Health Engineering Department.

The areas of Pak Colony, Lalchandabad, Hirabad, Gharibabad, Gulshan-e-Rehmania Colony, Khipro bus stand, Chutta village, Mir Colony, Bukhari town, Sial Colony, Adam town, Bhansighabad, Chandni Chowk, Torabad, Khad Plot, Khisakpura and Mehmoodabad have not received any water for the last 10 days. The residents of these areas are compelled to fetch water from hand pumps.

The Taluka Municipal Administration has not taken any measures to solve the problem.

Speaking to newsmen, several people, including Akbar Khan Pathan, Barkat Qureshi, Sultan Ahmed, Afaq Ahmed, Nazeer Ahmed and Wajid Raza, lamented that they were facing many hardships because of the disruption in the water supply.

They expressed disappointment that the Taluka Municipal Administration had failed to make alternative arrangements for supplying water.

They alleged that the municipal officials were busy in providing water to influential people and were selling water through tankers at exorbitant rates.

They demanded that higher authorities take notice of the negligence of the Taluka Municipal Administration, Mirpurkhas, and ensure proper water supply to the city, failing which the people would be compelled to launch a protest campaign.
