Rs300 million allocated for sports

ISLAMABAD, June 7: A sum of Rs 300 million has been earmarked in the Federal Budget 2003-04 for creating sports facilities in all the four provinces.

According to the public sector development programme 2003-04, the new projects to be undertaken include the replacement of the synthetic hockey pitch at the Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad for which Rs 30.610 million have been allocated and the renovation of NSTCC in Peshawar for a sum of Rs 3 million.

The government also earmarked Rs 15 million for the extension of the Abbottabad Squash Complex and renovation of existing courts in Quetta, Peshawar and Rawalpindi.

The report says that a sum of Rs 1 million would go towards the construction of boxing gymnsaiums at Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta while Rs 20 million have been earmarked for the construction of a sports complex in Sadiqabad and Rahim Yar Khan.

Another Rs 16 million have been set aside for building a sports complex in Nawabshah.
