BAHAWALPUR, June 5: On the report of the Irrigation SE, Civil Lines police on Thursday registered a case against the Bahawalpur Apca president and 17 other office-bearers for allegedly visiting his office and inciting employees to go on strike.

SE Muhammad Akhtar alleged in his complaint that Apca president Fakhar Rehman Azhar and office-bearers had visited his office on Wednesday and forced the employees to go on strike.

The SE further alleged that when he tried to intervene in the matter, the Apca office bearers went on berserk and exchanged harsh words with him which created a law and order situation.

On the other hand, the accused Apca president, who has not so far been arrested, claimed that he had gone to the SE’s office on his call to negotiate with him on the strike issue. But, he alleged that the SE started using harsh words and was about to beat them up when they rushed out of his office.

He said the Apca would discuss the issue in its general council meeting.

released: Two PPP activists were released on Thursday from the new Central Jail, Bahawalpur.

Rana Iftikhar, the Peoples Youth Organization (Lahore) secretary-general, and Akhtar Humayun, the PYO president (Lahore Cantonment), were released after the acceptance of their bails by a Lahore court.

Both were arrested along with legislators after rumpus in the Punjab assembly during the last week following speaker’s order to ban the entry of 27 MPAs in the PA.

They were welcomed by local PPP leaders at jail gate at the time of their release.
