LAHORE, June 1: The budget session of the National Assembly is likely to be convened on June 7, Speaker Chaudhry Amir Husain said here on Sunday.
Talking to reporters at the residence of the PML-Q president, he hoped that the session would be orderly.
Replying to a question, he said a decision on whether the LFO was part of the Constitution or not would be taken by the heads of various parties to be invited by Prime Minister Jamali to a meeting in the near future.
He said he had already submitted his report to the prime minister based on views of the PML-Q, the MMA, the PPP and the PML-N on the LFO and his personal recommendations. However, heads of the party were free to take any decision, even if it was not compatible with the report.
“Our report is very positive. It will help resolve the crisis”, said the speaker, without giving any hint about the recommendations he had made.
“The controversy should be resolved, and it will be”.
He believed that the assembly would also complete its constitutional term.
Asked what contribution had the constitutional committee made if the fundamental issue of the status of the LFO was yet to be determined, he said the committee had done very useful work, but he was unable to disclose it.
A reporter pointed out that Chaudhry Amir Husain had accepted the LFO a part of the Constitution some time back, the speaker corrected him, saying it was his personal opinion —- not official ruling.
Chaudhry Amir Husain, asked about his views on the status of the assembly membership of those who were not accepting the LFO a part of the Constitution and the Election Order under which they had taken part in the polls was yet to be validated by parliament, said it was a very relevant issue on which he would give a detailed ruling.
He said it was possible that the matter was raised in the budget session.
He said it was the responsibility of every party to play its role in saving the political system and bringing an end to the state of uncertainty.
