KARACHI, May 31: Sindh governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on Saturday issued directives for beautification and up-gradation of the city’s important exit and entry points at Sohrab Goth and its adjoining areas.
He also emphasised the need for internal improvement and development of other cities and towns of the province with beautification of their exit and entry points.
A meeting in this regard was held here under the chairmanship of the governor. It was attended by chief secretary K.B. Rind, chairman National Highway Authority (NHA) Maj-Gen Farrukh, principal secretary Akhtar Zamin, Naib Nazim Tariq Hasan, DCO Mir Hussain Ali, CCPO Karachi Asad Ashraf Malik, DIG traffic Mohammed Yamin Khan and other officials.
Dr Ibad stressed the need for taking clear-cut steps about polythene bags and called for joint efforts in that regard by the provincial environment and industry departments and the local governments.
The governor stressed the need to make the Sohrab Goth area clean, spacious an disciplined for traffic movement. The meeting decided that the city government and the NHA, through mutual cooperation, would arrange plantation, improvement of roads and repairs of bridges and lighting.
ANTI-EXTORTION SQUAD: The governor has directed the IGP to constitute a separate anti-extortion squad with particular emphasis on industrial and business areas.
He said that after the enforcement of the Anti-Extortion Ordinance a visible progress had been noticed, which was acknowledged by the business community on different occasions.
However, he said, efforts would continue till the complete eradication of that menace and no pressure would be tolerated.
The governor praised the performance of the police against robbers and criminals in Karachi and in the interior of Sindh.
He said that brave police officials must be encouraged at every level.—APP
