KARACHI, May 31: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, which in recent past witnessed withdrawal of its workers after the induction of high profile leaders of other parties in the organization, will mobilise its founding cadre and workers to turn it into a mass organisation.
This was stated by Mirza Jehangir Rahman, newly-appointed President of its Sindh Chapter, at a press conference. Central Vice President of the party, Dr Arif Alvi was also present.
Mr Rahman said over 80 per cent voters were disappointed with the performance of traditional parties and as such they did not exercise their right to vote. They need to be mobilised and brought back to the mainstream politics, but this can only be possible if they have faith in the party and its capability to deliver the goods.
This can only be possible if leadership was groomed from the grass-root level instead of imposing big names who had failed to serve the people due to their indulgence in traditional politics.
In the new setup of the organization workers would be in the driving seat who were on the forefront when the party was founded in 1996. They were novice in politics but had experience and capability of taking the party to the grass-root level because of their past as activists of students organisations, labour fronts, and business and professional bodies.
It was their work which helped the party to beg 13 per cent votes within a year of its formation in the 1997 elections. But later on when big names were given party offices to bring people rally round the party, they failed to deliver on one hand and disappointing the party workers on the other.
Mr Rahman said now once again workers were being brought on the forefront to change the party culture within one year.
In reply to a question, the PTI leader said when Mairaj Mohammad Khan was given the office of the Secretary General of the party, everyone had pinned high hopes in him, but he did not come up to the expectations.
