Students end strike

QUETTA, May 20: Balochistan Governor Abdul Qadir Baloch has directed release of the arrested students while agitating students’ bodies have decided to call off their protest meetings following successful talks with the chancellor.

A delegation of the students action committee met the governor here on Tuesday and apprised him of the problems faced by students in the university.

Abdul Qadir, according to an official statement, assured students’ representatives that all arrested would be freed and the university administration would receive monthly Rs50 as rent for a room in the hostels.

He urged students to strive for improving education standard in the university and other educational institutions of the province. The Balochistan government would approach the National Education Commission to enhance grant of the university to meet financial necessities of the campus, he added.

MPAs Akhtar Hussain Langoo of BNP-Mengal and Naseem Turyala of PMAP were also present on this occasion.

Meanwhile, a spokesman of the students action committee, Nasrullah Zeray, confirmed to this reporter that they had called off the strike after a meaningful dialogue with the governor.

He claimed that the governor had assured that matters related to the vice-chancellor’s attitude and recruitment in the university against rules would be considered after the receipt of an inquiry report.
