Clash at IIU: students reply show cause notice

By A Reporter

ISLAMABAD, May 14: The Islami Jamiat Tulaba (IJT) and Anjuman Tulaba-i-Islam (ATI) on Wednesday submitted written response to the show cause notices served on them by a committee set up to probe the clash at International Islamic University (IIU), a university official told Dawn.

The seven-member committee was formed to probe the incident which occurred on Saturday night between two rival students organizations. Six students were injured in the clash.

The administration had issued show cause notices to 17 activists from the two organizations on Tuesday.

The official said the committee would hold hearings of students on Friday. “The committee would then be in a position to recommend disciplinary action against the students found guilty,” he said.

Meanwhile, a forum of old students of International Islamic University (IIU) has condemned the clash between two student organizations at the university.

A press release issued here on Wednesday said the Old Islamian Students Council of Pakistan (OISCP) held its emergency meeting which was attended by a number of former students of the IIU.

Pir Syed Hussain Gilani presided over the meeting. Other participants included Barrister Kamaluddin Jan, a senior lawyer at Supreme Court; Professor Jamilur Rheman Sheikh and Allama Shah Ziaullah Qadri.
