Nationalists to resist military action

QUETTA, May 8: Three nationalist parties of Balochistan have decided to meet on Sunday next to evolve a joint stand on the issues and concerns currently faced by the province.

It was decided in a meeting between the Jamhoori Watan Party and the Balochistan National Movement (BNM) held here on Wednesday.

The meeting resolved that a four-member committee of the Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) would contact the veteran Baloch leader, Nawab Khair Bukhsh Marri, and the Khan of Kalat Mir Suliman Jan, to discuss the present political situation.

The leaders of both the parties discussed different issues of the province and described the threat of military action in the province a violation of the Constitution and agreed to launch a joint struggle for the protection of rights, implementation of Balochistan’s quota in the federal services, corporations, autonomous bodies and foreign service.

Such a platform would also strive for the control of natural resources of the province, including oil and gas.

The proposed meeting would evolve a joint strategy in view of the prevailing situation and coordination between the nationalist and progressive forces would be made more effective.

BNM president Dr Hayee Baloch, led his side in the meeting while Mir Humayan Marri represented the JWP. Other who participated in the meeting included Agha Shahid Bugti, Senator Amanullah Kanrani, Mir Saleem Khosa MPA, Mehrab Baloch, Niaz Baloch, Abdul Khaliq Baloch and Nasir Baloch.
