PESHAWAR, May 8: Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) involving $220m were signed between Pakistani and Afghan traders for the export of a variety of items to Afghanistan during a three -day “Rebuild Afghanistan Trade Fair” that concluded here on Thursday.
Afghan traders signed MoUs for the import of tractors, tobacco and construction material during the trade fair exhibiting large variety of Pakistani products manufactured in different parts of the country.
Speaking at a press conference following the conclusion of the three-day event, jointly organized by the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and EPB here on Thursday, SCCI President Ghulam Sarwar Mohmand termed the trade fair highly successful and result-oriented.
Mohmand said that Afghan traders had shown keen interest in importing a large range of Pakistani products including carpet yarn, vegetable oil, polythene sheets, tobacco and construction material.
An Afghan trader Haji Naeem Habibi, said the SCCI chief, had signed an MoU with Star Tobacco Company for the import of tobacco worth $10 million.
Similarly, under an other MoU construction material worth $50m would be exported from Pakistan to the war-torn country.
The Attock Oil Refinery signed an MoU involving $60m for providing assistance to rebuild Shabargan Oil Field in Afghanistan.
