JHANG, May 7: The provisional autopsy report released by the medical board of the DHQ Hospital, Jhang, on Wednesday confirmed torture on the SSP activist.
Ghulam Abbas of Khanewal district was found dead in the lock-up of Satellite Town police post on the morning of May 3. He was in the police custody since May 1.
According to the report, there were 36 injuries on the body inflicted by blunt weapons.
According to a source, some body parts have been dispatched to the chemical examiner in Lahore for further tests. Final report would be released after the chemical examiner’s report is received, he added.
Ghulam Abbas, a sugarcane juice vendor, was a former bodyguard of the son of Maulana Haq Nawaz Jhangvi, Maulana Izharul Haq who was killed in Karachi a few months ago. He was picked up by the personnel of special staff of Jhang police, constituted by the DPO to fight terrorism, while he was going to visit a friend in the Satellite Town area. He was taken to the Satellite Town police post where he was subjected to torture for three days.
Ghulam Abbas was an accused of murder of the gunman of Shorkot TNFJ president Iltaf Husain Shah, but was acquitted by a court. He was on bail in a case of carrying illicit arms.
Meanwhile the police have not yet arrested any of the six policemen against whom a murder case has been registered. Ironically, the list of accused does not include any official above the rank of head constable. No officer of the Sadar police station, Satellite Town police post or the special staff who were supervising the “interrogation” have been named in the FIR.
