NAWABSHAH, May 5: At least 75 regular tube-well watchmen and 465 work charge tube-well watchmen of the Left Bank Outfall Drain (LBOD) have not received their salaries for the last three months.
Some of the affected watchmen, including Ameer Ali Mari, Munsif Khan Khoso, Ghulam Rasool Brohi, Ghulam Shabbir Khaskheli, Gul Hassan Kalhoro and Khamiso Khan Abro told this correspondent on Saturday that they had not been paid their salaries for the last three months.
They appealed to the Sindh chief minister and other authorities concerned to conduct an inquiry and solve their problems.
DIST GOVT CRITICIZED: Pir Zakir union council Nazim Syed Munir Shah has accused the district Nazim of trying to bring down the local government system in Nawabshah district.
Accompanied by the union council Nazims of Nawabshah-3 and 5, Ahmed Bughio, Baheri, That and Shahpur Jehanian, Mr Shah was speaking at a press conference at the local press club on Monday.
He said that each union council was being given only Rs30,000 per month inclusive of staff salaries.
He said that no bylaws were made and no account report was presented at the district council and no meeting of monitoring committees was ever held during last 21 months.
He alleged that the district government sessions were adjourned even after completion of quorum whereas sometimes resolutions were passed when quorum was not complete.
The UC Nazim alleged that the annual development programme schemes of 2003-2004 were approved without taking the district council into confidence and Doulatpur taluka was ignored in the approval of road schemes.
Mr Shah said that the Awami Ittehad would soon launch a movement against the district Nazim and he had launched talks with the local leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Pakistan Muslim League-Q and Sindh Democratic Alliance in this regard.
On the other hand, the district Naib Nazim, Khalid Hussain Channa, said that District Nazim Faryal Talpur was always ready for accountability.
He told this correspondent that the district government was working in a smooth manner despite several difficulties.
PLOTS: The chairman, R & F Model Town Welfare Association, Nawabshah, Faiz Mohammad Bohar, continued his token hunger strike along with his children for the 18th consecutive day on Sunday opposite the press club against the non-registration of plots to allotees.
