SHO directed to file case against ASP

By A Reporter

ISLAMABAD, May 1: Additional District and Sessions Judge Qazi Waqar Hussain on Wednesday directed the station house officer of Secretariat police to register a case against assistant superintendent police (rural) Mazharul Haq Kakakhel for allegedly harassing Amira Akram, a section officer.

Ms Akram in her application alleged that ASP Mazharul Haq, who is her neighbour, was forcing her into illicit relations. On April 19, a servant of the ASP, Mohammad Sadiq, came to her residence and brutally tortured her and dragged her by her hair.

She alleged that when she reached Secretariat police station to lodge a complaint, ASI Anis Akbar kept her in illegal confinement and tortured her. He also tore off her application, she added.

She said she also filed an application with SSP Shahid Nadeem Baloch but no action was taken against the alleged culprits.

Taking action on the application of the woman, the judge summoned the SHO of Secretariat police station, Zubair Sheikh, and directed him to register a case against the responsible police official and start investigation.

9-MONTH RI AWARDED: District and Sessions Judge Chaudhary Asad Raza on Wednesday awarded nine-month rigorous imprisonment to a person for drug smuggling.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs5,000 on the convict, Mohammad Sajjad. In case of default, the convict would have to undergo another six-month RI.

I-9 police had arrested the accused in 2002 and seized 115gram charas from his possession.

The accused confessed his crime in the court.

ACQUITTED: Additional District and Sessions Judge Qazi Waqar Hussain acquitted two persons in a murder case on Wednesday.

The accused, Ghulam Mohammad and Muasam Khan, were charged with murder of a policeman. The incident happened while trying to steal visa stickers from the Embassy of Portugal, falling in the jurisdiction of Kuhsar police station.
