CNG station owners to go on partial strike

By A Reporter

ISLAMABAD, April 20: All Pakistan Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Association will observe partial strike against the working of illegal CNG workshops in the twin cities.

A declaration issued by the association said the strike, which would continue from midnight on Sunday till 3pm on Monday, had no political motive.

All CNG stations will remain closed during the strike. “Ours is one point demand from the government to close down all unauthorized CNG workshops using substandard and locally manufactured gas cylinders,” the declaration said.

The use of such cylinders, it added, had often resulted in fatal accidents that claimed a number of lives in the past.

“We have repeatedly brought the issue to the attention of the authority concerned, but, so far, no punitive action has been taken against the persons responsible,” it said.

The association asked the government to dismantle all illegally-operating CNG workshops and arrest the persons responsible to save the future of CNG business.

Meanwhile, the Hydrocarbon Development Institute of Pakistan, in a statement, said its outlets were supplying CNG only to the vehicles installed with authorized kits.

In order to facilitate such motorists, all HDIP outlets at Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore and Quetta will remain open on Monday till 10pm.

The HDIP has called for installing quality CNG kits in the vehicles to avoid any untoward incident. It also warned those using LPG as vehicle fuel, saying the practice was not safe.
