ISLAMABAD, March 30: Abdul Rasheed Junior, a former Pakistan hockey manager, on Sunday praised the national team on winning the Azlan Shah tournament in Malaysia but warned them not to be complacent with the Champions Trophy coming up.

“Although this side has certain weaknesses that need to be rectified, we have to build from here and not be complacent,” he told Dawn.

“The players indulged in futile scooping during the tournament instead of concentrating on ball possession which is clearly more important.”

He also pointed out that penalty corner striker Sohail Abbas needed to score regularly against big teams and should be told how to go about doing that.

Rasheed said the management should stick with this team and give them an extended run and international exposure so that they could bring home the titles that matter including this August’s Champions Trophy in the Netherlands.
