KARACHI: 4 Muttahida men acquitted

KARACHI, March 28: The additional district and sessions courts of district West acquitted on Friday four workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in two separate murder cases.

Judge Naseem Mansoor acquitted Israr Ahmed, Faisal Hussain and Shaikh Ferozuddin in the murder case, registered against them in Orangi.

The Muttahida men were prosecuted for killing one Naeem Ahmed and injuring Qasim in 1999.

Judge Sikander Lashari acquitted Abdur Rahman alias Bhola in the murder case of a head constable.

Bhola was prosecuted for killing Tassaduq Hussain in 1995 in Baldia Town.

The Muttahida workers were exonerated from the charges as the prosecution could not establish its cases against them.

IDENTIFIED: An anti-terrorism court put off on Friday the hearing of a murder case against two workers of the MQM after the statement of the first prosecution witness, who also identified the accused.

Judge Arshad Noor Khan of the ATC-3 fixed Saturday for recording the statements of further prosecution witnesses.

Imran alias Munna and Mujahid are being prosecuted for killing constable Mehboob in Orangi Town in January 2001.

According to prosecution, constables Muhammed Hanif and Mehboob Alam were on intelligence duty in the vicinity on their motorcycle when the accused intercepted them. One of the accused shot and injured constable Alam.

The injured, who had sustained a bullet on his upper torso, was admitted to the hospital, where he underwent surgery for three time during the period of one year.

Meanwhile, the police arrested the accused on June 21, 2001 for possessing unlicensed weapons. During the interrogation, it was revealed that the accused were also involved in the attack on policemen.

The police submitted charge-sheet against the accused in the sessions court for injuring the policeman.

While the case was still pending, the injured cop died on November, 2002. Later, the case was transferred to the ATC for trial.

Special public prosecutor, Naimat Ali Randhawa, examined constable Mohammed Hanif as first prosecution witness.
