KARACHI: Policeman shot dead

KARACHI, March 24: A policeman was shot dead in New Karachi on Monday evening.

The police said the dead man was identified as Manzoor Hasan, a policeman posted in the investigation wing. He lived in Bhangoria Goth, Azizabad.

Witnesses told the police that Manzoor riding a motorcycle was intercepted by two armed men, who were also riding a motorcycle, in sector 9 of New Karachi in Khwaja Ajmer Nagri police limits.

The armed men fired two shots and escaped. Manzoor suffered two bullet injuries: one to his head and the other to his shoulder. He died on the spot.

The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy.

ROBBERIES: Three robberies were committed in the city on Monday, the police said.

Five bandits broke into Nasir Haroon’s house in Samanabad, held the family hostage at gunpoint and got away with cash, jewellery and other valuables.

Robbers barged into Kamran Ali’s house in Model Colony, Malir, made the family hostage at gunpoint and looted cash, jewellery and other valuables.

Bandits barged into Mohammed Ramazan’s house in Eidgah police limits, held the family hostage at gunpoint and got away with cash, jewellery and other valuables.

BODY FOUND: The body of an old man was found in a stormwater drain in Mochko police limits on Monday.

The police said the body of a man, who was in his late 60s, was found in a dry stormwater drain.

The police shifted the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.

Doctors have reserved the autopsy report till the receipt of reports of histopathological and chemical tests. The body has been kept in the Edhi’s morgue for identification.
