KARACHI: City councillors burn effigy of Bush

KARACHI, March 22: The members of city council on Saturday opposed the US war against Iraq, and burned an effigy of President Bush on the premises of Naib Nazim secretariat.

Members belonging to various groups were unanimous in condemning the US-led war and denounced the reckless bombardment on civilian area.

Saeed Ghani, Siddique Rathore, Rashid Beg, Muslim Pervaiz, Rehana Afroze, Sajjad Dara and Abdur Razzaq Sanghani expressed support to the Iraqis and said that US action had made a mockery of UN.

They said though they were not in favour of any personality in the Gulf, including the Iraqi president, the US ruthlessness in the name of peace in the region only proves that the world is moving back towards the dark ages when only the policy of “might is right” was followed.

The house, presided by Naib Nazim Tariq Hasan, will also discuss war in its next session on Monday.—PPI
