Captain Crash should romp to victory once again

By Ian Fyfe

KARACHI, March 18: Horseracing suspended in the city for the last 15 days due to Ashura, will resume again, when the Winter Gymkhana Meeting gets under way once again on Wednesday afternoon at the Karachi Racecourse.

All in all, seven events has been carded on the racing programme, with the first six races to be contested over the sprinting distance of five furlongs and the concluding event to be run over six.

The first race will begin at 1.00 p.m.

Our day’s best undoubtedly comes in the concluding race where Faisal Farooq’s thoroughbred chestnut colt Captain Crash from Shareek out of Classic Touch, will be going all out to register his second victory on the trot.

Captain Crash ridden by jockey Latif, scored his maiden victory two weeks ago going over five furlongs, just managing to hold off the very late challenge by Sarazen with M. Yousuf aboard.

Although going over an extra furlong on Wednesday, the chestnut colt is still our day’s best to pass the winning post ahead of the seasoned Prince Of Arabia and Welcome Shahtab, with both runners relishing the extra furlong.

Another runner that should not lose on Wednesday, is another thoroughbred chestnut colt Sarazen trained by Karim Bachoo participating in the sixth event.

Last time out, the colt running a poor sixth approaching the bend, came out with a flying burst in the last furlong to finish second behind Captain Crash by just 3/4 lengths.

In a big field of 18 runners, Sarazen should be followed home by the blue roan Order Of The Day and the speedy Mah Sagar.

In the opener where 13 runners will be trotting up to the starting gate unless there are some late withdrawals from the race, the bay four-year-old filly Bye Bye is fancied in our columns to win this race, with Law Of Nature and Century battling it out in the home stretch for the second spot.

Pervaiz Khan’s bay gelding Striker with a good lad astride, should pick up the spoils in the next event, coming from behind to overcome the likes of Jango and Even Top.

The chestnut horse Sovero, if ticking, should win the third race for the mere asking, cutting down to size the challenge of Prism Of Life and Rich Valiant.

Mr. Ashok’s grey mare Blue’s Night, after a rest of two weeks should now find the going ideal in the fourth race going over the sprinting distance of five furlongs, with Mark and One Touch in close pursuit.

The bay gelding Just In Fun, although finishing a distance third in the last outing, is the form horse in the fifth race and if ticking, should find the going good to win the fifth race of the afternoon from Black Magic and Ray Of Light.

All said and done, an interesting afternoon awaits the racing fans.
