KARACHI, March 17: The Karachi Electric Supply Corporation switches off feeders during the peak hours supplying electricity to those areas where power theft is rampant.
This was disclosed by the KESC managing director, Brig Tariq Saddozai, at a press conference on Monday.
He said: “There are at least 10 feeders in the city which supply electricity to those areas where 80 per cent of consumers indulge in power pilferage. Similarly, there are about 188 feeders which supply electricity to those areas where about 60 per cent of consumers indulge in power theft. This is totally unacceptable.”
He conceded that because of such intentional power shutoffs those consumers also suffered who paid their utility bills in time and refrained from power pilferage.
“Since the KESC does not have a mechanism in place which could prevent consumers from indulging in power theft, it has to resort to such types of power shutoffs during the peak hours.”
