Power supply to Chitral restored

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, March 15: The power supply to Chitral district was restored from the national grid of Water and Power Development Authority after remaining suspended for 24 days, according to sources.

The electricity supply to Chitral district from Wapda’s national grid through Chitral-Dir transmission line came at halt on Feb 17, last, due to damage done to the transmission lines by heavy snowfall which lashed several parts of the remote district.

Though following the suspension of power supply from the Dir-Chitral transmission line parts of Chitral continued getting power supply from Wapda’s small hydel power generation stations at Chitral town, but the bulk area of the district remained without electricity for 24 days multiplying hardships for the people of Chitral already hit hard by heavy snowfall.

The Dir-Chitral transmission line stretches to about 110kms involving some 968 poles of which 23 were found damaged due to heavy snowfall. Some of the damaged poles were replaced whereas few were repaired. Parts of the affected wire were also replaced.

The press release claimed that Wapda staff took 24 days to restore power because of unfavourable weather conditions.
