Products’ display in Kenya planned

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, March 12: Pakistan’s high commission in Kenya would establish a warehouse to exhibit Pakistani products in an effort to promote the country’s export.

Addressing members of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) here on Wednesday, Pakistan’s high commissioner to Kenya, Hameed Asghar Qudwai, said that Pakistani products had ample prospect of capturing a substantial chunk of the Kenyan consumer market.

“This would not only promote Pakistani products’ export, but would also break the Indian manufacturers’ monopoly there,” said Mr Qudwai.

He advised the local industrialists and exporters to concentrate on the Kenyan market which held great promise.

In an attempt to make inroads into the Kenyan market, he said Pakistan’s high commission was in the process of establishing a warehouse with the sole purpose of introducing and promoting Pakistani products there.

According to him, match boxes, wooden furniture, medicines, carpets, kitchen items, precious and semi-precious stones and a large variety of other goods manufactured in the NWFP could be exported to Kenya.

The exporters displaying their items in the warehouse would not be charged anything for six months, he said

Another piece of advice the HC gave to the SCCI members was that they should open their display centres and shops in Kenya “to break the Indian products’ dominance there.”
