RAWALPINDI, March 12: The civil judge and judicial magistrate, Azfar Sultan Syed, on Wednesday directed the SSP Rawalpindi to initiate an inquiry into a matter in which the Airport police allegedly kept three women in illegal detention and manhandled them.

The court took the move after the accused, Kafeela, Shazia and Shafia, who were brought to the court by the Airport police, rejected the claim that they had been arrested on Wednesday after recovery of stolen items from them.

They contended before the judge that the police arrested them on March 10 and afterwards kept them in illegal detention. They said the police also manhandled them although no stolen items were recovered from them.

The court directed the SSP to present the inquiry report before the judge on March 15.

The civil judge and judicial magistrate, Mohammad Iqbal Guraya, sent a person, who had allegedly committed forgery, on three-day physical remand.

According to the airport authorities, Mohammad Abid tried to travel to England by changing the photograph on a passport. The passport actually belonged to Abid Majeed, who died in 1984.

The additional district and sessions judge, Syed Pervez Ali Shah, issued show cause notice to the station house officer (SHO) and investigation officer of the airport police station for not presenting the record in a criminal case.

The same court also rejected the bail application of an accused, Mohammad Naeem, who was booked by the Pirwadhai police for smuggling 18kg charas.

The additional district and sessions judge, Malik Akram Awan, accepted the bail application of three Afghans, Shahbaz Khan, Shakiruddin and Mirza Sharif, who were booked by the police for not possessing the required documents.
