PPP leader wants LFO tabled in NA


MIRPURKHAS, March 12: Pakistan People’s Party has rejected LFO saying that nothing could be made part of the Constitution unless passed by two-thirds majority of the National Assembly.

The PPP-MNA Nawab Mohammad Yousuf Talpur said PPP had welcomed certain parts of the LFO including the introduction of joint electorate system but that too had not been done through proper Constitutional amendment passed by parliament.

However, as far as the uniformed president, National Security Council and other sweeping executive powers of the Presidency were concerned, the party would vehemently oppose, he said in a statement on Wednesday.

He claimed that the way government was trying to impose LFO had proved that Gen Pervez Musharraf wanted a rubber stamp parliament. He said the party would never allow any extra-constitutional addition to be thrust on the people.
