KARACHI, March 11: An alleged bandit was shot dead in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Tuesday, in what the police claimed an encounter.

The police said three armed men entered a house in Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s block 13-D. As they were busy collecting valuables in the house, someone from the house informed the police on phone No 15.

When the bandits were leaving the house, a police party reached the spot and chased them. One of the bandits entered Sunny Heights, an apartment building. An exchange of fire took place between the police and the bandits in which one of the suspects, Waseem, was killed.

The police arrested another suspect, Ishaq. Their third accomplice, identified as Ibrahim, escaped.

The police said Ibrahim’s sister Parveen worked as a servant at the house and she provided information to her brother.

ROAD ACCIDENT: An unidentified young man died in a hit-and- run accident on Super Highway on Tuesday.

The police said an unidentified man, who was in his mid-20s, was run over by an unknown vehicle on Super Highway in the police limits of Sachal.

The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.

KILLINGS: A young woman was killed in Orangi Town on Tuesday.

Zareena, aged 17, wife of Saadullah, was found murdered at her house in Fareed Colony, Mominabad.

The police said Zareena, an Afghan woman, had gone to her in-laws’ place on the third floor of the same house, where she lived. She had lunch with her in- laws at their house.

Later, she came to her second-floor residence, where she was found murdered in the evening. She was stabbed to death.

The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.

A young man was killed by his cousin in a petty dispute at Kalri on Tuesday.

The police said Mohammed Siddique, aged 35, was hammered to death by his cousin Salman in a dispute over Rs150.

The police claimed to have arrested the suspect.
