SUKKUR, March 8: On the call of the Sindh Bar Council, lawyers observed protest against the Legal Framework Order throughout the province on Saturday.
Sukkur chapters of the Sindh High Court Bar Association and the District Bar Association unanimously adopted a resolution against the Legal Frame Order at a joint protest meeting held here on Saturday.
The meeting called upon the parliamentarians not not accept the LFO which was harmful for the democratic process.
Earlier, the lawyers boycotted the court for one hour from 11am to 12pm.
SHIKARPUR: Lawyers of the district boycotted court proceedings on Saturday to press the government for withdrawal of the Legal Framework Order.
The lawyers also held a protest meeting at the district bar room.
Speaking at the meeting, the lawyers opposed the LFO.
KHAIRPUR: The District Bar Association on Saturday observed a black day against the Legal Framework Order.
Lawyers did not attend courts in Khairpur, Gambat, Thari Mirwah, Pir-jo-Goth and Kot Diji between 11am to 12 noon.
A protest meeting was also held on this occasion to condemn the government’s endeavours to make the LFO part of the Constitution without due legal procedure.
A resolution against the Thal Canal project was also passed by the Bar association.
JACOBABAD: The District Bar Association members boycotted court proceedings here on Saturday to protest against inclusion of the Legal Framework Order in the Constitution and possible US attack on Iraq.
A protest meeting of the lawyers was also held, at which the president of the DBA, Mohammad Siddiq Khoso, the general secretary, Sharfuddin Soomro, and others spoke.
They termed the LFO a supra-constitutional document, saying that it contravened basic structure of the 1973 Constitution which was unanimously passed by an elected parliament.
They said that the Constitution should not be altered by an executive order.
HYDERABAD: Lawyers observed Black Day on Saturday to protest against the Legal Framework Order as well as the extension of retirement ages of judges through the same.
They wore black arm-bands in response to the call extended by the action committee, constituted by the national conference of lawyers’ representatives.
Lawyers also suspended their work for an hour to lodge their protest.
