March to be successful: JI

RAWALPINDI, March 7: The ameer of Jamat-i-Islami, Punjab, Hafiz Mohammed Idrees, on Friday warned that if the government tried to ban the JI’s peace loving political faction, they would go to the court.

To a query during a Press conference, he dispelled the impression that any Al Qaeda member had been captured from the house of any JI member and termed the allegation a total propaganda. He maintained that the JI had no links with any terrorist group, as it believed in peace and democracy.

About Saturday’s millennium march, he said like MMA rally in Karachi, the march would also be successful in Rawalpindi. He said besides the central leaders of MMA some local MPAs and MNAs would lead the rally. He maintained that the MMA had also asked the federal minister for information and media development, Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, to participate in the march but the latter showed no interest.

He said door-to-door awareness campaign through MMA workers had been completed, while 500,000 hand bills had already been distributed among the masses to inform them about the objectives of the rally besides thousands of banners and posters.

He observed that 1,500 buses, 500 wagons and 1,000 private vehicles would flock the people to Liaquat Bagh, from where they would march towards Chandni Chowk on Murree Road at 1pm.
