HARIPUR, March 7: District Nazim, Haripur, Dr Raja Amer Zaman has demanded that President Gen Pervez Musharraf should honour his commitment and provide Haripur with Sui gas.

The Nazim told reporters that he had presented the General with this demand at a public meeting in Abbottabad last year.Gen Parvez Musharraf had then promised to provide the people of Haripur with sui gas.

The Nazim said that it had been about a year since the president made this commitment but there was still no sign of any move towards the acceptance of the demand.

Raja Amer Zaman added that this district’s people had always contributed greatly towards projects of national economic importance. Tarbela, Khanpur and Ghazi Barotha dams are some examples for which they had sacrificed their lands and other sources of livelihood.

He said that despite the sacrifices, people of certain areas still faced misery from the non-availability of basic amenities such as gas and electricity.

Dr Amer Zaman stated that although the main gas line passed through Khanpur and the main GT Road, Haripur enroute to Abbottabad and Mansehra.
