Khalid-Zia pair record victory

KARACHI, March 6: The pair of Khalid Mohiuddin and Ziaullah Baig won the 30 pairs contested Super Bowl XIII Invitational Pair event at the Aslam Bridge Hall.

All the ranking players, according to the format were seeded in North - South direction. Khalid Mohiuddin, the winner of last month’s contest, paired with team mate, Ziaullah Baig and succeeded in scoring a double.

Right from the sixth round, a bunch of renowned players like Shahin Iqbal - Masud Saleem, Pervaiz Mirza - Gulzar Bilal, S.M. Ozair - Nasir Reza, Masud Mazhar- Maj Zaidi stormed in with the leading bunch.

At the close, Khalid-Zia made an all out effort to reach the top and succeeded by winning with 60.98 percent over their nearest rivals Shahin - Masud Saleem 60. 23 percent for the second berth. The Pervaiz Mirza - Gulzar Bilal pair scored 58.71 percent and finished third.

The Maqbool Ahmed - Dr Mohsin pair gave an excellent performance, keeping higher ranking players at the receiving end. They scored 62.69 for the top position from the East - West direction. Afzal Shaikh - Iqbal Siddiqui scored 60.69 per cent for the second berth with a score of 57.77 per cent.—PPI
