Hasib blames cricket board, coach and captain

KARACHI, March 4: Former Test off-spinner and ex-chief selector Hasib Ahsan on Tuesday criticised Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), coach Richard Pybus and captain Waqar Younis for the debacle in the World Cup.

“Poor performance, lack of planning, disappointed batting and bowling ousted Pakistan from the competition” Hasib said.

“They did not play as a team and their batting and bowling miserably failed despite tall claims by the selectors” he maintained.

“Did Pakistan pay Richard Pybus such a massive amount for these kinds of results when 1999 World Cup runners-up Pakistan failed to even make it to the Super Six stage,” he questioned.

He said despite consistent failures in batting and bowling, touring selection committee only brought young paceman Mohammad Sami and all-rounder Azhar Mahmood in the last match against Zimbabwe, that too in vain.

He called for a thorough investigation into the debacle of the team by an independent and neutral panel of cricket experts.

Hasib was of the view that it is time that veteran players should say goodbye to the team and youngsters should be groomed for the future including the coming Sharjah Cup.—APP
