KARACHI: Rupture repaired

KARACHI, March 4: Water supply to all those localities where the Water and Sanitation Department had applied a two-day weekly water closure (Monday and Tuesday) has been restored following completion of repair work on the ruptured section of a 54-inch dia pipeline. Eight wide cracks had developed in the pipeline near the Steel Mills Town.

The affected localities were Defence Housing Authority, Bin Qasim Town, Cattle Colony, Landhi, Landhi industrial area, Korangi, Korangi industrial area, Akhtar Colony, Manzoor Colony, Hazara Colony, PAF Korangi Base, Korangi Creek, KESC’s Thermal Power Station, NRL, PRL, PARCO and its adjoining areas.

A spokesman for the W&S Department said that although the repairing work was scheduled to be completed on Wednesday morning, the task was accomplished 12 hours ahead of the schedule.

The rupture had been rendering waste about one million gallons of water every day, the spokesman added.
