DHAKA, Feb 28: Bangladeshi and Indian border guards exchanged heavy fire for about five hours on Thursday morning, reportedly after some Indian smugglers tried to bring in a few camels to Bangladesh through its Shibganj border point in Chapainawabganj district.
However, there were no casualties, local dailies reported. One camel dies in firing.
“The Boarder Security Forces (BSF) of India entered Bangladesh territory chasing camel smugglers,” said Lt. Col. Mominul Islam, commanding officer of the 6th Battalion of the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), a local daily quoted him as saying. “They first opened fire on the smugglers, killing a camel. At around 4:00am, they fired on the BDR camp at the Beel Bhatia.”
