KARACHI, Feb 27: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad said here on Thursday that national image building, the attainment of national harmony and efficiency in every sector should be the focal point of our efforts and the educational institutions should play a special role towards achieving these goals.

He was speaking during a visit to the Institute of Business Administration.

The governor’s adviser on higher education, Abdul Wahab Shaikh, Principal Secretary Brig Akhtar Zamin, Aftab Lodhi and members of the IBA’s Board of Directors were present on the occasion.

The governor was of the view that the IBA enjoyed credibility in the entire world and its graduates, wherever they might be, should take advantage of their position and ensure a good image of the country.

He praised the IBA for giving admission on the basis of merit, and added that admission on the basis of merit to other institutions would also be ensured.

Dr Ibad said efforts were being made to implement discipline in educational institutions.

Taking notice of bad condition of the auditorium, he ordered its renovation.

The governor praised the efforts being made for research and improvement in the faculty and said talented graduates of the Institute who were working abroad should be persuaded to return and serve the country.

Mr Danishmand, the IBA Director, briefed the governor on the Institute’s performance and future programmes.

He said so far 4,472 persons had done their MBA from the IBA and now they were working in higher positions in and outside Pakistan.

He said the IBA had concluded an agreement with the CBR whereby the Institute was starting MBA (Tax Management) programme from next year. Besides, there was also a programme for Diploma in Business Administration and later MBA for grade 18 and 19 officers of the Sindh government would also be introduced.

He said the IBA had, in principle, established contact with the world’s two top business schools, the MIT’s SLOAN and LLOGG, so as to bring the IBA’s programmes, teaching, examination system, training, etc in conformity with present-day needs.—APP
