KARACHI: Man shot dead by robbers

KARACHI, Feb 26: A young man was shot dead and another was injured by robbers in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Wednesday night.

Police said that Muhammad Akram, aged 28, and his associate Shar-i-Islam, aged 33, were shot when they resisted two unknown armed men in Pehlwan Goth, Gulistan-i-Jauhar.

Police said the men tried to snatch some cash from Akram and shot him and his associate when they resisted.

Police said that Akram died on the spot while his associate was admitted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. The victim’s body was also shifted to the JPMC for the postmortem examination, police said.

ACCIDENT: A motorcyclist died and his wife and a daughter were injured in a road accident in Landhi on Wednesday.

The police said that Abdullah with his wife, Akbari Begum, and daughter Runa were riding on a motorcycle (KCH-195) when it was hit by a pickup truck (JE-0673) in Sector 36-D of Landhi near an ice depot.

Abdullah died on the spot. His injured wife and daughter were taken to the Jinnah Hospital.

The pickup driver escaped.

DIES: A prisoner died in Landhi Jail late on Tuesday night. Police said Manzoor Husain, 70, had fallen ill, complaining chest pain on Tuesday night. He was shifted to JPMC where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

MLO told Dawn that the victim had died due to cardiac arrest.

The prisoner was serving life sentence in a murder case committed in Korangi.
