RAWALPINDI, Feb 25: The additional district and sessions judge, Qazi Waqar Hussain, awarded five-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a drug-peddler and also imposed a Rs50,000 fine on him.

The convict, Sher Mohammad, will have to undergo another six months of jail-term if he failed to pay the fine. The convict was arrested by the Tarnol police for possessing 5kg charas.

Similarly, the judicial magistrate, Chaudhary Mumtaz Hussain, has sent two drug-peddlers to jail on judicial remand.

The accused — Amjad Ali and Babar Hussain — were arrested by the Tarnol police, who recovered 10kg charas and fake currency from their possession.

Meanwhile, the additional district and sessions judge, Chaudhry Mohammad Yunas, rejected the bail application of a person, Khalilur Rehman, involved in a fraud case.

OUR REPORTER FROM PINDI ADDS: The additional district and sessions judge, Chaudhry Imtiaz Ahmed, on Tuesday acquitted three persons of the charges of murder after both the parties involved in the case reached an agreement.

According to Murree police, the accused — Shafa Ahmed, Masood Ahmed and Aziz Ahmed — had murdered a person, Mohammad Saeed, after exchanging harsh words with him.

However, in the court, parents of the deceased pardoned all the accused saying the killing of their son was an accident.

Similarly, the additional district and sessions judge, Mohammad Akram Awan, awarded eight months of rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a drug-peddler.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs5,000 on the convict, Waqarul Islam. He will have to undergo another month of jail-term if he failed to pay the fine.

The Kotli Sattian police booked the convict for peddling 0.5kg charas.

The same court also awarded three-month RI to another drug- peddler, who had been booked by the New Town police for smuggling 1.2kg charas.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs2,000 on the convict, Imran Shehzad. In case of non-payment of the fine, the convict would have to serve another month of jail-term.
