KARACHI: Nazims want a say in officials’transfer

KARACHI, Feb 25: A majority of Town Nazims in the city have urged the government to take them and the City Nazim into confidence before transferring government officers, including SHOs and town police officers.

Speaking at a press conference at the Karachi Press Club on Tuesday, the Town Nazims expressed reservations over the recent transfer of police officers and maintained that these actions had hampered the smooth working of the city government.

“All the transfers are being made on political grounds without taking the Nazims into confidence,” said the Nazim of Liaqatabad Town, Dr Pervez Mehmood. “Even City Nazim, who is responsible for law and order of the city, is not being taken into confidence before transfer of police officers.”

They said that the town administrations had been facing financial problems due to non-availability of funds. The Nazim of Gulberg Town, Farooq Naimatullah, also spoke.

The Nazims of Saddar, Bin Qasim, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Jamshed Town, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Keamari, Landhi and Naib Nazim of Lyari Town were also present.—APP
