KARACHI, Feb 22: As many as 900 candidates are likely to appear in MBBS 3rd professional annual examinations, commencing on Feb 24, under the aegis of the University of Karachi.

A senior examination official of the university said that three examinations centres had been set up for 902 candidates on the campus: Two for girl students at the departments of Political Science and Mass Communication, while one for boys at the Mathematics department.

The official said that admits cards against all the examination forms as submitted by the medical colleges had been issued and the university had nothing in pending. Admit cards to the Sindh Medical College and one of the private colleges were issued on Saturday.

The breakdown of regular students appearing in the exams from different medical colleges are as follows: Dow Medical College - 302 girls and 147 boys; Sindh Medical College - 219 girls and 129 boys; Karachi Medical and Dental College - 28 girls and 15 boys; and Jinnah Medical College - 31 girls and 16 boys.

FAKE ADMISSIONS: The Sindh Medical College has detected another seven cases of “fake admission” and as such the examination papers of the students were not sent to the university for issuance of admit cards for the MBBS 3rd professional exams.

An official at the college said that they had detected the invalid cases at the eleventh hour only after getting information from parents of the students whose admissions had already been found as “fake”.

“We have examined the educational documents and admission papers of the students once again and have issued notices to them to clarify their position”, he said, adding that 4 or 5 students had responded so far, while a couple of students had been informed that if they succeeded in establishing legality of their admission even on Feb 24, the college would ensure their appearance in the examinations.

After the latest findings, now about 29 students have not been issued admit cards for the 3rd professional exams, added the official.

In another development, the SMC students appearing in the MBBS 3rd professional examinations were issued admit cards in the afternoon on Saturday.
