KOHAT, Feb 20: A Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal member of the National Assembly Mufti Ibrar said that bureaucracy was creating hurdles in the implementation of Islamic code in the society, despite clear  orders by the NWFP chief minister, and warned the officials of stern action in case video shops and cable centres were not closed down and  obscene posters were not removed from the cinema walls. 

Talking to various delegations at his residence in Lachi town on Tuesday, he blamed bureaucracy for hindering the implementation of MMAs policies.

Responding to the questions regarding the presence of US forces in the country and Al Qaeda hunt by the armed forces on the western borders, he said the MMA had demanded of the federal government to  immediately stop hunting Al Qaeda in the tribal areas and expel the  foreign elements from the country. He claimed that there were no terrorists hiding in the tribal areas.

He said that the federal government was responsible for the alleged obscenity on the media as the media was being controlled by it.   

He alleged that the government was trying to send message to the West, through the media, that Pakistan was a secular state.

He said that the weak stance of the Musharraf government on all regional and domestic issues would facilitate the alleged US plans to harm country’s interests.

He asked the police and the civil bureaucracy to shun their “inhuman” policies or be ready for stern punitive action by the MMA government.
