KARACHI: Work begins on women’s university, says Nazim

KARACHI, Feb 20: Preliminary work has started on the establishment of a women’s university in Karachi.

“It will start functioning during the tenure of the present city district government although setting up of such a university does not come into its purview”, said the City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan.

He was speaking at a ceremony held in connection with the provision of facility of point buses in Gulberg Town for students of girls colleges.

Naimatullah said: “We are endeavouring for setting up this university because we had made a promise to the people of Karachi and hopefully a bill would soon be tabled before Sindh Assembly soon.

The women university would be established in a college that shows better results, therefore, students and teachers have to work hard and show exemplary results.

He said that the Karachi Transport Ittehad has voluntarily allocated 10 buses to start the point facility for students of six girls colleges of Gulberg Town, namely Al-Noor, B.Ed, Science and Commerce, F. B. Area Block-16, Shaheed-i-Millat, Government College for Women and APWA College, Karimabad.

The Nazim Gulberg Town, Farooq Naimatullah, said the promise to the students has been fulfilled.

He said the death of two students of Apwa College cannot be compensated. However, there has come an improvement in the attitude of transporters who have started feeling the sentiments of citizens.

Speaking on the occasion, KTI president Irshad Bukhari said the entire transport community is ashamed of the death of two students of APWA College and offers it apologies to their parents, the college and the students.—PPI
