ISLAMABAD, Feb 19: The Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned hearing of the petitions of former naval chief Mansurul Haq till Feb 26, on plea of the prosecutor-general, accountability, that he required more time to produce record of fresh case against him.

The former naval chief has stated that, after the payment of over $7.5 million to the government, he was not being spared and was involved in a fresh case.

He stated that he had entered into plea bargain on the condition that after the payment, he would not be prosecuted in any other case.

On the last date of hearing the SC had issued notices to the National Accountability Bureau’s prosecutor-general and the attorney-general for Wednesday.

The SC bench consisted of Chief Justice Shaikh Riaz Ahmed, Justice Mian M. Ajmal and Justice M. Nawaz Abbasi. Advocate Akram Shaikh represented Mr Haq.

The petitioner has informed the court that he was charged with embezzling $3.3 million and NAB asked him to deposit $7.5 million.

He said the plea-bargain amount was a compensation of all cases against him.

He is seeking quashing of a fresh reference pertaining to kickbacks amounting to $3 million in a deal of Pakistan National Shipping Corporation.

In another petition, he prayed the court to direct NAB to set him free.
