Students beaten

PESHAWAR, Feb 18: The police resorted to a baton charge here on Tuesday when students of the Islamic Centre, University of Peshawar, wanted to lodge a protest against the administration which prevented the students from taking examination on account of shortage of attendance.

Following the administration’s move, the students rushed to the director’s office to lodge their concern. But, the police resorted to baton charge to disperse them which angered the students, who boycotted the paper.

Later, the police also beat the students at the examination hall. The students retaliated by pelting stone.

Condemning the police action against the students, the Islami Jamiat-i-Talaba alleged that the university administration was intimidating the students in one way or the other and demanded action.—Bureau
