KARACHI, Feb 18: Two women died in separate road accidents in different parts of Korangi on Tuesday.

Police said that a young woman was knocked down by a vehicle. Rukhsana, aged 30, was crossing the main road in Korangi No.5 when a speeding minibus hit her and escaped.

Police said that victim died on the spot. Her body was taken to the JPMC for the postmortem examination.

In another part of Korangi a woman was knocked down by a speeding minibus.

Police said that Safia Sultana, aged 36, was crossing the road along with her eight-year-old daughter Sadia, when the minibus knocked her down. Her daughter was also injured. They were shifted to the JPMC where Safia was pronounced dead. The daughter was admitted for treatment, the hospital sources said.

DIES: A young woman died of burns at the hospital on Tuesday.

Police said that Meera, aged 30, was brought from Orangi Extension with burns two days ago. She was admitted into the burns ward of the Civil Hospital Karachi, where she died on Tuesday.

Police said that the woman had suffered burns while working in the kitchen of her house.

INJURED: A vendor was shot and injured by two persons on Tuesday.

Police said that Muhammad Waseem, aged 21, was shot by two unknown men at Garden Chowk.

The victim was rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi where he was operated upon. The hospital sources described his condition as serious, police said.

SHOT: A minibus driver was shot and wounded by a policeman in Mehmoodabad on Tuesday.

Eyewitnesses said that the driver of the minibus of route U-1 was beaten up and shot in the leg by sub-inspector Tariq Rahim.

According to reports, two minibuses of the same route were racing against each other. The police official involved owns one of those minibuses and was in it at the time.

Later, the policeman roughed up Muhammad Akram, the driver of the other minibus, shot him in the leg and fled.

The injured driver was taken to the JPMC for treatment.

ROBBERIES: A young man was deprived of cash and a mobile phone by two armed men in Gulshan-i-Iqbal late Monday night.

Police said that unknown armed men intercepted Ali Zada, aged 23, snatched cash and a cell phone at gunpoint and fled.

In another incident four armed men barged into the house of Gohar Ali in Nazimabad. The held the family hostage at gunpoint and escaped after collecting cash and valuables.

In Korangi a young man was robbed of cash at gunpoint by armed men in sector 5.
