LAHORE, Feb 15: The Derby Trials, a term race for four-year-old Pakistani colts and fillies, looks a contest between three top colts, who will measure each other’s strides, when the 20th Lahore Winter Meeting gets under way at the Racecourse on Sunday.

They are: Red Ransom, The Conqueror and Raqeeb-i-Azam, a raider from Karachi. All are highly strung colts, having won acclaim at the Lahore and Karachi Racecourse with their extra- ordinary performances.

The Derby Trials, is to be run over 2000m and will be the fifth race of the day.

Bay Red Ransom is by Dexter out-of-Raba Riba and has registered three victories and two places during the on-going Lahore Winter Meetings before running unplaced twice. Dark-bay The Conqueror, a progeny of Polineso out-of-Night Pealn has won five races and placed twice in his eight outings this season. Bay Raqeeb-i-Azam is the leading colt from Karachi and brought here with high hopes.
