By Our Correspondent

TOBA TEK SINGH, Feb 11: The powers of district governments will not be reduced and the government has no plan to eliminate the devolution programme.

This was stated on Monday night in the district council hall by federal Interior Minister Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat while speaking at a dinner hosted by district Nazim Chaudhry Ashfaq.

He said Prime Minister Zafarullah Jamali would call within a few weeks a convention of Nazimeen and Naib Nazimeen to chalk out a plan to further strengthen the local councils system.

The government has decided to simultaneously continue the district, provincial and federal governments and won’t allow any conflict among them because this was in the interest of democracy, the Syed said.

He urged the councillors to play their role in maintaining law and order situation.

MPAs Chaudhry Liaquat Ali Shaukat and Brig Javed Akram (retired) and district Naib Nazim Haji Ghulam Rabbani.
