Reckless driving claims two lives

KARACHI, Feb 9: Reckless driving claimed two lives in the city on Sunday.

A man died and another was injured in a road accident in Defence Housing Authority.

The police said Munir Ahmed, aged 48, and Arshad, aged 30, were riding a motorcycle (KCD-1224) when a speeding water tanker (LSA-7230) knocked them down on Khayaban-i-Shujaat in the DHA.

Munir died on the spot. Arshad has been admitted to the JPMC.

The police claimed to have arrested the tanker driver, Aurangzeb, and impounded the tanker.

An elderly woman was knocked down by an unidentified vehicle near Nipa.

The police said an unidentified woman, who was in he 60s, was run over by a speeding vehicle.

The body was sent to the JPMC for post-mortem.

FIR: A third FIR, under the Police Order 2002, was lodged against four policemen, posted at Preedy police station, on Sunday for illegal detention of a family on Saturday night.

DSP Preedy Aijaz Hashim said four policemen, ASI Khadim Husain, head constable Mohammed Anwar, constable Nadeem Akhtar and constable Sajid Hameed, while on duty near Radio Pakistan on M. A. Jinnah Road stopped a family passing through the road in a car.

The policemen held the family for several hours and harassed them. The policemen also misbehaved with female members of the family.

The complainant, Shahzad Sabir, informed senior police officers.

On Sunday on the instructions of the DIG Operations an FIR 17/2003 was lodged at Preedy police station under section 156-C of Police Order 2002 and the four policemen were arrested.
