Handing over of stadium delayed

Published February 8, 2003

LAHORE, Feb 7: The handing over of the Punjab Stadium to the government may be delayed as the contractor has still to be paid a sum Rs 14m as arrears.

The stadium with a football ground and a proposed  tartan track is almost near completion.

The contractor, the National Logistic Cell (NLC) is demanding the payment of the arrears before handing it over to the government for the Games.

An amount of Rs 100m had been sanctioned by the Punjab government for this stadium.

To equip the stadium with a tartan track facility, no letter of credit was opened so far to import the track, making the matter more complicated. The funds for the track are available with the education ministry.
