Young boy killed in road accident

By Our Staff Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Feb 7: A 4-year-old boy was killed after being hit by a taxi in Waris Khan area on Friday night, police said.

Mohammad Islam Butt, a resident of Fazalabad Mohallah, lodged a complaint with the police saying that Rabaz was standing in the street when a speeding taxi (IDT-5826) hit him.

The critically injured boy died while being taken to the DHQ hospital, the police said. However, the driver of the vehicle managed to escape from the scene.

ARMYMAN LOOTED: Two police constables were arrested on Friday on charges of disguising themselves as army personnel and depriving a batman of Rs7,500 and other valuables, official source told Dawn.

The source said the batman, Irshad Ali, was heading towards a bus-stop on Thursday when the policemen — Azmat Bajwa, who is posted at the PM House, and Tahir Farooq of Golra police station — intercepted him near Pirwadhai Mor posing as army officers.

The policemen frisked Irshad Ali and later ordered him to accompany them to the police station, he added.

The police officials asked the batman to ride their motorbike, however Irshad jumped from the vehicle due to fear, the source said.

Disclosing the details of the incident, the inquiry officer, ASP Ishfaq, told Dawn that the two officials again apprehended the batman and tortured him.

Somehow Irshad escaped from the clutches of the policemen and lodged a complaint with the police.

After preliminary inquiry conducted by the ASP, the two policemen were found guilty, which led to registration of a robbery case against them. The ASP said the officials were sent to jail after registration of the FIR.
