Four get death for double murder

GUJRANWALA, Feb 7: A local court on Friday handed down death sentence to four convicts on two-count each with a fine of Rs400,000 collectively in a double murder case.

They will have to undergo a six-month hard jail in case of default in the payment of fine.

According to the prosecution, convicts Muhammad Mushtaq, Muhammad Nazir, Zahid alias Jaju and Javed alias Jeera had killed two brothers Jamil Ahmad and Shabbir Ahmad during a dacoity bid in Kalarabadi on Sept 30, 2000.

URGED: A meeting presided over by district coordinating officer Iftikhar Ahmad on Friday underlined the need for completing the service road along the GT Road after removing all hurdles as the people were facing problems.

Works and Services Executive District Officer and heads of Gujranwala Development Authority, Wasa, city tehsil council and other senior officers of various government departments were also present on the occasion.

City tehsil council chief engineer Azher Mahboob gave briefing about the pace of construction work of service road. He said the city tehsil council had already released Rs35 million for this purpose while Rs5 million would be released shortly.

A representative of Frontier Works Organization (FWO) assured the meeting that the service road would be completed within its stipulated period.

KIDNAPPED, STRANGLED: A nursery class student was kidnapped by unidentified men and later strangled him and threw his body in the ground of Government College, Satellite Town, here on Friday.

Muhammad Arsalan, son of Muhammad Akram of Farid Town, had been missing from his house since Thursday evening. It was suspected that he was killed after being sodomized.

Police have registered a case and are investigating.

SUSPENDED: An SHO was suspended from service on the charge of arresting a court reader without the permission of the district and sessions judge.

The DIG also issued a show-cause notice to him.

Aroop SHO Tasadduq Hussain entered the court and arrested the reader in a case. Taking serious note of it, DSJ Riazul Hassan Alvi informed DIG Malik Muhammad Iqbal who suspended him instantly.
