MIRPURKHAS: Special package for Mirpurkhas demanded

MIRPURKHAS, Feb 7: Growers have demanded of the Sindh government to announce special package for the Mirpurkhas district as it had been the worst affected by persistent shortage of water for the past four years.
This was demanded by the president of the Sindh Agriculture Growers Development Association, Rais Ahmed Khan, on Friday while talking to newsmen.
Citing reasons for the acute shortage of water, he said that the district was situated at the tail-end of the Nara Canal because of which the growers had been receiving lesser amount of water.
Complaining about the attitude of the owners of the sugar mill, he said that they had been denying the sugarcane growers rates fixed by the government for their produce, adding that millions of rupees were outstanding against sugar mills.
Criticizing the officials of irrigation department, he said that mismanagement on the part of the irrigation department had created a continuous shortage of water in the district, rendering hundreds of acres of fertile land barren.

This was stated by the DCO of Mirpurkhas, Maqbool Ahmed Sheikh, while talking to newsmen.
He said that he was compiling report to furnish it to the federal government.
A group of Mirpurkhas district council members had sent complaints to the National Steering Committee over the alleged transfer of several Dera schemes, meant for the drought-affected areas of Mirpurkhas and Tharparkar districts, to the agriculture sector.
Under the Dera programme, the National Steering Committee had allocated Rs508 million for 119 development schemes at the drought-affected areas of district. Out of which, Rs53 million had been released for 15 schemes.
sacked employees: A delegation of the sacked employees of the United Bank has called on Sindh minister for information technology Shabbir Ahmed Qaimi and Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s minority MPA Ponjo Bheel in Karachi the other day.
According to a press release, the delegation apprised the minister and MPA about anti-worker policies of the UBL administration, which was sacking employees and putting them in surplus pool.
The delegation deplored that out of 1,100 sacked employees of the bank, as many as 772 belonged to Sindh.
The minister assured the delegation that he would approach higher authorities to seek an end to such policies.
TRANSFERRED: The EDO (health), Mirpurkhas, Dr Din Mohammad Rathore, has been transferred while Dr Fazal Illahi Memon has been appointed as the EDO (health), Mirpurkhas, with immediate effect.
