KARACHI, Feb 7: Reckless driving claimed two lives in the city since late Thursday night.

An elderly woman died in a road accident in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Friday.

The police said that Rukhsar, aged 85, was knocked down by a speeding truck (LSA-3354) while walking across the main Rashid Minhas Road near Moti Mahal.

She was rushed to the JPMC where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.

The police claimed to have arrested the truck driver, Mohammed Qayyoom, at the spot and impounded the truck.

A woman was run over by a speeding minibus in Paposhnagar late Thursday night.

The police said that a speeding minibus of route W-19 (JE-3624) knocked down Jehan Ara near the Paposhnagar police kiosk.

She was rushed to nearby Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Following the accident, an enraged crowd surrounded the bus and damaged it. The police saved the bus from being set on fire.
